ESPE ENERGIA s.r.l. was established in Romania in 2004, with the acquisition of 5 hydroelectric plants which, at that time, had an average installed power of 4 MW, accounting for a yearly average output of 8,000,000 kWh.
The water of the river Firita supply these plants in the beautiful mountain landscape of the region Muramures, whose capital is Baia Mare.
This region is very rich of river water, therefore it lends itself very well to be exploited for the purpose of producing hydroelectric power.
Through the years these plants, already in existence for decades and built in different periods, have partially continued to produce energy and partially been shut down; today, under normal working conditions and after the development of a suitable industrial plan, their overall output is equal to 7 MW, for a yearly average output of 16,000,000 kWh.
The capital of ESPE ENERGIA is fully private, the company belongs to the ESPE Group, which has some enterprises working in the Electric Sector in Italy and in Romania.
ESPE ENERGIA was the first private company established in Romania in the field of Hydroelectric Power production.
In 2007, it was awarded the second prize in the classification of small- and medium-size enterprises devised by the National Council for Private Enterprises and the Electrical Power Production dominion.
This first investment triggered a series of planning studies for the exploitation of other sources and other opportunities.
